Random thoughts from the OPC interoperability workshop that was hosted by OSISoft in San Leandro California.
The week of May 17 we held our annual North American interoperability workshop for the OPC Foundation. This is always a very exciting event getting together developers from competitive companies all working together that are committed to certification and validation of their respective products with other vendors products. This year was no exception to the rule. We had over 30 people participating testing over 150 different products that were under development or released that supported the technology in the OPC Foundation portfolio.
Every one of the vendors at the interoperability workshop had at least one product (and many of them had multiple products) that supported the OPC Unified Architecture technology. In addition there were multiple vendors that had either added or were adding OPC Xi to their products.
There were also all seven OPC classic client applications that were tested and certified using the OPC analyzer at the interoperability workshop. (I guess that means there still are products that are being developed based on COM from our vendor community).
A complete list of all the vendors and the corresponding products will be published as part of the interoperability results shortly. Complete information about those can be found on the OPC Foundation website under interoperability testing.
The beauty of an interoperability workshop also provides a unique opportunity for vendors to essentially test their products in what is typically been referred to as a plug-fest. But even more importantly the developers get together and have a unique networking opportunity to work together in a friendly environment strategy for maximizing the use of the OPC technology.
Part of the interoperability workshop was also focused at somewhat of a mini developer type workshop, where we had experts on hand to help people implement OPC Xi into their products.
