Flying on the last flight of a retiring captain/pilot

Tags: Thoughts to Ponder

The flight that I was drawn back from Germany, was the captains (pilot) last flight before he retires. Obviously the flight attendants made a big deal about the event and there were a number of stories that people told about his 25 years of flying.

The most exciting part was after we landed, they gave the pilot the official pilot salute, whereby they have two fire trucks on both sides of the plane as we drove in on the tarmac, and they shot water over the plane as the plane went underneath as an arc over the plane.

The pilot said this was going to be his best landing ever as this was his last landing. The funny part of this was unfortunately for the pilot we had quite a bit of turbulence as we landed, but everyone still gave him quite a clapping ovation as we all bounced around in our seats as we landed.
