ABB Automation & Power World March 24-26, 2009

Tags: Thoughts from your OPC Foundation President

I attended the ABB Automation & Power World March 24-26, 2009.   Unofficially I heard there were over 3200 people in attendance.    From the number of people that I saw in attendance, they had at least that many people in attendance.

I'm definitely proud to say that I had the opportunity to attend and present an update on the OPC Unified Architecture. I presented the OPC Unified Architecture in a session on the last day in the morning of the event, and had over 35 people in attendance.

The event overall was clearly a great opportunity for the end-users, suppliers, distributors, and even ABB employees to learn about all the products and services that ABB has to offer. There were also many sessions on actual applications in various domains.

The event was extremely well choreographed, it was amazing how they were able to keep everything flowing and be able to do the simple things of keeping everybody well fed in a highly efficient manner. The keynote presentation at the Wednesday lunch was all about services from one of the vice presidents of Ritz-Carlton.

Even in the economic time that we currently are going through it was great to see ABB's commitment to continuing to evangelize and grow the market share of their company and their commitment to their installed base and future customers.

I look forward to the opportunity to attend and present at next year's ABB Automation & Power World event.
